Sputnik 1985
Started in 2011 as a punk merch outfit before mutating into Moscow's most quotable streetwear label, Sputnik 1985 (named for Sergey Pakhotin's birth year, in a region devastated by Chernobyl) trades in Cyrillic graphics, prison-tattoo iconography, Soviet-boxer nostalgia and slogans like 'I will always be against'. Two collections a year, a single Moscow store and stockists from Tokyo to Saint Petersburg made it the post-Gosha standard-bearer for Russian street-cultural irony.
