Matthieu Blazy

Born to French parents in Paris and raised between France and Belgium, Matthieu Blazy graduated from Brussels's La Cambre in 2007. He cut his teeth at Raf Simons, Maison Margiela (couture under John Galliano), and Calvin Klein 205W39NYC under Simons. Daniel Lee brought him into Bottega Veneta as ready-to-wear director in 2020, and Kering elevated him to creative director in November 2021. His three-year Bottega tenure became one of the most quietly influential of the decade — trompe-l'œil leather jeans, the Andiamo bag, hand-knotted Intrecciato evening dresses — earning him the Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards 2023. In December 2024 Chanel announced Blazy as its new artistic director, succeeding Virginie Viard; he begins showing in 2025 as only the fourth head designer in the maison's history.
