Meet the newest … and the smallest … and the cheapest member of Yeti’s hard cooler family.

The Roadie 8 arrives with the same legendary cooling prowess of coolers five times its size. Only it comes in a compact form factor for adventures closer to home.

Start small

Releasing just in time for summer, the Roadie 8 is the first new hard cooler from Yeti since the brand released the Roadie 15 and updated Roadie 24.

But as Yeti’s head of hard goods Chris Welch will tell you, there’s more going on here than a simple reduction in size.

“We approached this very much in the way we approach our other coolers,” Welch says.

“We looked at where people are using our current products and maybe overextending them. You think of the daily job site, the sidelines and bleachers, behind the driver seat.”

According to Welch, the focus here pertains less to ice retention, something Yeti’s renowned PermaFrost insulation solved long ago.

Instead, he and his team asked Yeti’s network of ambassadors what they truly needed to carry for single or even half-day outings, and more importantly, how.

Handle with care

One of the first things longtime Yeti fans will notice with the Roadie 8 is its unique integrated handle. The brand calls it the SmallHaul, and it harkens back to the design of discontinued coolers the brand made over a decade ago.

The Roadie 8 features a unique hard handle called the SmallHaul.

“If you look at the DoubleDuty strap on Roadie 15 and Roadie 24, even the handles on some of our soft coolers, there’s a bit of a decision point,” Welch says.”

The SmallHaul, by contrast, is a “grab-and-go solution. No complication.”

For users who still prefer the lightweight strap, rest assured. The SmallHaul comes off with a simple Allen key, and the DoubleDuty can be installed with an accessory kit (sold separately).

However, mind one of the hidden features here: tie-down slots for use on the back of ATVs, golf carts, boats and other small vehicles.

Unlimited access

Of course, the Roadie 8 is far from Yeti’s only small-scale solution for on-the-go thermal retention.

The Hopper has long set the standard in soft coolers. Meanwhile, the lower price point of Yeti’s rapidly expanding Daytrip series is hard to ignore.

That said, the Roadie 8 sets itself apart with a single latch for swift, one-handed access, something that no other hard cooler in the Yeti catalog matches.

“The ability to get in and out of this with a single hand motion, and not even necessarily needing to see what you’re doing, is a pretty big differentiator,” Welch says.

The cooler is also compatible with the Roadie’s suite of accessories, including a lock for security and child safety.

Availability and pricing

Available in a range of colorways, the Roadie 8 launches May 26 for account holders with early access. A full rollout is scheduled for June 9.

The retail price is $165, making the Roadie 8 Yeti’s most affordable hard cooler to date.
