Founder
Guillaume Philibert
Filling Pieces was founded in 2009 in Amsterdam by Guillaume Philibert, a Dutch designer of French and Cape Verdean heritage who launched the brand from his apartment at age 22. The thesis was specific: produce a premium European sneaker that bridged the gap between athletic footwear and dress shoes — the kind of garment Philibert called 'in-between footwear' that the Amsterdam creative class needed but couldn't easily buy. The Filling Pieces vocabulary settled around several core sneaker silhouettes: the Low Top (the brand's defining product, in vegetable-tanned leather), the Court Sneaker, and the Mountain Cut (a hiking-inspired silhouette). Production is mostly Portuguese with the leather sourced from European tanneries. The brand has expanded into apparel and accessories under a broader 'Filling Pieces Lifestyle' umbrella that extends the Amsterdam-design-school sensibility across product categories. The brand operates flagships in Amsterdam (Hartenstraat), Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Berlin, plus an extensive wholesale network. Filling Pieces is independent and held by Philibert. Philibert has been recognised by the BoF 500, Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe, and various Dutch design awards. Few European sneaker brands have built such a coherent design vocabulary while maintaining the founder-led independence that began with a single design from an apartment.
