Marsèll
Marsèll was founded in 2001 in Milan by Antonio Anzini and Maurizio Alisi as a footwear-anchored luxury brand specifically focused on what they described as 'sculptural, deliberately deconstructed Italian leather footwear.' The brand's foundational thesis was specific: produce hand-built Italian leather shoes — primarily derby and oxford-derived silhouettes — with deliberately exaggerated proportions, raw-edge leather construction, and a deliberately-imperfect handcraft finish that read as anti-traditional luxury rather than the polished perfection of conventional Italian luxury footwear.
The Marsèll vocabulary settled around several specific shoe shapes: the iconic Filo Doppio (a derby with deliberately exaggerated rounded toe-box), the Listello (a chunky-soled oxford), the Sancrispa (a deliberately-deconstructed derby with visible cobbled stitching), and the Mascherina (an asymmetric loafer). Production remains entirely in the Marche region of Italy at the brand's hand-construction workshops. The brand expanded into leather goods (bags, wallets, belts) and a limited ready-to-wear apparel programme but footwear has remained the cultural anchor.
The brand is independent and held by Anzini and Alisi. Marsèll operates flagship retail in Milan (Via Solferino, the brand's home store) plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, Antonioli, LN-CC, Lane Crawford, the major luxury menswear specialty retailers globally, and a small set of carefully chosen avant-garde-leather specialty retailers. The brand has been one of the more quietly disciplined post-2000 Italian luxury footwear brands, with the 'deconstructed-artisan' positioning specifically anchoring the brand inside the Carol Christian Poell, Guidi, Marsèll constellation of avant-garde Italian leather houses.
