Stutterheim
Stutterheim was founded in 2010 in Stockholm by Alexander Stutterheim as a contemporary Swedish luxury raincoat brand specifically focused on what Stutterheim described as 'a deliberately-Swedish craft-anchored handcrafted rubberised-cotton raincoat vocabulary anchored to traditional Swedish-and-northern-European raincoat construction.' The brand has been one of the defining post-2010 Scandinavian-anchored 'craft-luxury-raincoat' brands.
The Stutterheim vocabulary settled around several specific products: the iconic Stutterheim Stockholm raincoat (the brand's defining 2010-pattern product — a handcrafted rubberised-cotton raincoat with the iconic Stutterheim Swedish-traditional raincoat construction featuring hand-glued seams and a wax-cotton wax surface), the Stutterheim Mosebacke shorter raincoat variant, the Stutterheim Kosta open-back raincoat variant, various hand-finished rubberised-cotton raincoat variations in shifting weights and constructions, and a colour palette anchored to washed-black (the brand's defining colour for the iconic Stockholm product), military-olive, washed-navy, oxblood, washed-cream, plus the brand's recurring use of natural-undyed and the iconic Swedish-Stockholm-aesthetic colour combinations. Production is entirely Swedish at the Stockholm workshop.
The brand is independent and held by Stutterheim plus institutional Scandinavian-luxury investors. Stutterheim operates flagship retail in Stockholm (the brand's home flagship), New York (Soho), plus international wholesale through SSENSE, MR PORTER, MATCHES, Net-a-Porter, the broader US-and-European luxury-rainwear specialty retailers, the substantial Japanese department-store distribution network, and a curated set of contemporary-luxury-rainwear specialty retailers globally. The brand has been one of the most rigorously committed post-2010 Scandinavian-anchored 'craft-luxury-raincoat' brands.
