The On Sneaker That Dethroned the Samba Just Broke New Ground

On and Loewe are back at it again with a fresh batch of collab releases that push the limits of luxury for premium sneakers.

While the duo’s new LightSpray Cloudmonster dominated headlines, largely because of its innovative, laceless design, the new Cloudtilt Hi sneaker has also quietly arrived as an evolution of the design that first made the Swiss running brand a luxury fashion player.

The Luxury sneaker extends the original low-top’s minimalist aesthetic upward, adding ankle coverage while maintaining the CloudTec cushioning system that defines On’s technical identity.

The Cloudtilt Hi builds on the original collaboration’s foundation, which, back in 2024, was so popular that it dethroned Adidas’s famed Samba from its top spot on the Lyst Index.

In case that distinction doesn’t ring a bell, the Lyst Index was designed to determine the hottest brands and products each quarter by filtering “more than eight million items by volume of social media mentions alongside searches, page views, interactions and sales in the Lyst app.”

The upper of the new Cloudtilt Hi version retains the smooth suede and textile construction that made the low-top iteration stand out among premium running footwear, now extended upward in a seamless panel design.

On’s signature tilted CloudTec pods remain visible along the midsole, offering the same cushioning technology in a silhouette that bridges performance running and contemporary fashion.

Loewe’s influence appears in the material choices and colorway execution. The brand offers five color options including off-white, black, grey and earth tones, each carrying Loewe’s embossed branding on the heel counter.

On’s retail channels carry a more limited selection with two colorways.

The sneaker boot category has seen at least one release transition into a luxury fashion staple: Balenciaga’s Speed trainer line, which originally debuted in 2016 and became emblematic of high fashion’s embrace of athleisure as a trend too potent to ignore. But few, if any, other sneaker boots have managed to rival that shoe as a status symbol.

The Cloudtilt Hi’s technical foundation and luxury positioning could change that, or at least peel off some portion of the affluent style community that cares as much about performance credentials as it does brand cachet.

The Cloudtilt Hi retails for $650 through both Loewe and On. Loewe’s direct channels offer the full five-colorway range, while On stocks three options. Both retailers show immediate availability across standard sizing.
