LABELHOOD was founded in 2015 in Shanghai by Tasha Liu and Tian Ye as a Chinese designer development platform-and-retail operation that combines runway showcasing, multi-brand boutique retail, and the broader Chinese designer ecosystem support that the founders identified as structurally missing from the late-2010s Shanghai fashion conversation. The LABELHOOD premise—that Chinese designer brands needed both retail distribution and runway-and-press infrastructure that didn't yet exist in Shanghai—proved out across the late-2010s and 2020s as the platform incubated dozens of Chinese designer brands that subsequently entered the global luxury designer pipeline. The LABELHOOD vocabulary built up around an exhaustive Chinese designer brand pipeline: Sankuanz, Pronounce, Staffonly, Susan Fang, Caroline Hu, Mark Gong, Shushu/Tong, Calvin Luo, Xander Zhou, Annakiki, plus the broader Chinese designer pipeline that the platform has helped develop.
