Konstantin Chaykin has expanded his whimsical Wristmons series with the new “Matroskin” Limited Edition, a timepiece inspired by the beloved Russian cartoon cat from Three from Prostokvashino. Known for his playful approach to watchmaking, Chaykin once again blends horological ingenuity with cultural storytelling, creating a watch that is both technically impressive and emotionally engaging. The “Matroskin” continues the Wristmons tradition of animated dials, where the watch face doubles as a character’s expressive visage.
The design of the 40mm stainless steel watch faithfully translates the striped feline into mechanical form through purposeful and distinctive aesthetic choices. In a first for the Wristmon collection, the cat’s whiskers are rendered using a guilloché relief decoration that extends seamlessly from the dial directly onto the case bezel.
The case itself features upper extensions artfully shaped into feline ears, while a single crown maintains a visually balanced and natural silhouette. The dial is brought to life by Chaykin's signature Joker-indication, where the character's ever-changing eyes function as the hour and minute indicators, complemented by a dynamic "lunar smile" serving as the moonphase. To complete the character's signature look, the watch is paired with an exclusive, custom-designed striped leather strap.
Beneath the animated dial, the Matroskin timepiece is powered by the automatic Caliber K.18-27, which is based on the La Joux-Perret G200 movement customized specifically for the Konstantin Chaykin manufacture. Limited to just 55 pieces worldwide, the “Matroskin” Wristmons is available for inquiry through Konstantin Chaykin's website and authorized retailers, with a price tag of approx. $25,000 USD.
