Molly Goddard
Molly Goddard was founded in 2014 in London by Molly Goddard, a British designer who graduated from Central Saint Martins's MA program that year. Her graduate collection was widely covered — voluminous hand-smocked tulle dresses inspired equally by Victorian children's clothing and post-Vetements oversized streetwear — and Dover Street Market bought the entire collection straight off the runway, providing the brand's commercial launch.
The Molly Goddard vocabulary remains anchored to its founding gesture: oversized hand-smocked tulle dresses in saturated pinks, candy yellows, and electric blues, often paired (in styling) with combat boots and Doc Martens for a deliberate clash. The brand has expanded into knitwear, denim, and tailored pieces but the tulle dress remains the cultural centre. Each dress is hand-stitched by the brand's London atelier and can take days of labour per garment.
Molly Goddard has shown at London Fashion Week since 2015 and has been a defining presence in the city's contemporary scene. The brand is independent and held by Goddard plus various investors and her family (who serve in business-side roles). The Molly Goddard flagship on Lamb's Conduit Street in Bloomsbury opened in 2019. Few young designers have built so complete a brand around a single garment archetype — the tulle smock dress is now essentially a Molly Goddard category.
