MR PORTER launched in February 2011 in London as the menswear sibling site to NET-A-PORTER, which had been founded by Natalie Massenet in 2000 as one of the first luxury e-commerce platforms. Both sites were owned by Richemont through the YOOX Net-a-Porter Group merger in 2015. The site was conceived as a deliberately editorial men's luxury platform — a digital answer to GQ and Esquire as much as to a department store — anchored to the weekly Mr Porter Journal, the longer-form Mr Porter Post print magazine, and house style features tied to product. The MR PORTER vocabulary settled around several distinguishing things: a buyer-led brand list anchored to LVMH and Kering houses (Loewe, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Givenchy) plus carefully chosen independent labels (Lemaire, Visvim, The Row, Off-White, Common Projects); the in-house Mr P. private-label menswear line; and the long-running Mr Porter × brand-collaboration capsules with Stoffa, Fear of God, Beams Plus, and dozens of others. The annual Mr Porter Awards programme has been one of the more visible men's industry recognition events. MR PORTER is owned by the YOOX Net-a-Porter Group, which in 2024 underwent a complex transition with the Net-a-Porter Group being sold by Richemont to Mytheresa (now LuxExperience). The platform stocks approximately 600 brands and operates with global fulfilment from the UK, US, and Hong Kong centres. The site has been one of the defining shaping forces of how online luxury menswear is presented and sold globally.
