Level Shoes was founded in 2013 in Dubai by the Chalhoub Group as a 96,000-square-foot footwear-only flagship at the Dubai Mall — at the time of opening, the largest dedicated luxury-footwear-only retail space in the world. The store's foundational thesis was specific and culturally regional: serve the Gulf-Cooperation-Council (GCC) luxury customer base with a single-floor footwear concept that could house every major luxury footwear brand in dedicated brand boutiques within one space. The Level Shoes vocabulary settled around several distinguishing things: 40+ dedicated brand boutiques within the single Level Shoes flagship (Christian Louboutin, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo, Gianvito Rossi, Aquazzura, Charlotte Olympia, Sophia Webster, plus the major LVMH and Kering houses' footwear sections, plus the streetwear-and-sneaker section that has expanded to include Nike, Adidas, Off-White, A-Cold-Wall*, and the major collaboration releases), the Level Kids section that opened in 2015, the iconic central café space, the Level Shoes Edit emerging-designer programme, and a strong commitment to Arab-region exclusive product capsules. Level Shoes is owned by the Chalhoub Group, the Lebanese-Emirati luxury distribution conglomerate that operates approximately 750 luxury retail points across the GCC and the broader Middle East. Level Shoes operates the single Dubai Mall flagship (which has been expanded multiple times since 2013 and now spans approximately 100,000 square feet) plus the Level Shoes e-commerce platform serving the GCC and broader Middle East. The flagship has been one of the defining global examples of how a footwear-only retail concept can be built at a department-store-scale luxury offering.
