10 Corso Como was founded in 1991 in Milan by Carla Sozzani (the sister of Vogue Italia editor Franca Sozzani) as a multi-brand luxury concept space at 10 Corso Como in the Brera district, conceived as a deliberate alternative to traditional department-store retail format. The brand's foundational thesis was specific and conceptually rigorous: build a single-address concept space that combined a curated luxury retail floor, a contemporary art gallery (the Galleria Carla Sozzani), a photography bookstore, a restaurant-and-bar, and a small boutique hotel — all within a converted Brera residential building, treated as a single editorial concept space.
The 10 Corso Como vocabulary settled around several distinguishing things: a buyer-led brand list anchored to the major LVMH and Kering luxury houses plus a particularly strong selection of avant-garde and emerging designers (early Acne Studios, the early Comme des Garçons relationship, Maison Margiela, Yohji Yamamoto, Marni, Off-White, the 10 Corso Como Exclusive collection), the iconic Galleria Carla Sozzani photography exhibitions, the 10 Corso Como Cafè restaurant in the central courtyard, and the 10 Corso Como Editions book and product publishing programme.
10 Corso Como is independent and held by the Sozzani family through 10 Corso Como Group, with international franchise locations operated by partner companies. The Milan flagship operates from the original 10 Corso Como Brera address, with international franchise locations in Seoul (Cheongdam-dong, the largest of the international stores), Shanghai (Xintiandi), Beijing (Sanlitun), and a previous New York location at 1 Fulton Street that closed in 2020. The Milan flagship has been one of the defining global examples of how a concept-space retail format can integrate art, food, hospitality, and luxury fashion in a single editorial-curated address.
